My name is Rasa (Dew), and I reside in Rokishkis area, on homestead, Europe, Lithuania,
I have a wonderful husband, 3 daughters and baby son, 2 dogs, pair sheep, chickens, guses and ducks.
We live in the old farm far away from big sity. It was uninhabited until one year ago we bought it. We had lived in capital of Lithuania, before that radical moving out.
Now our life is similar to a living in a desert island, with various household chores. Not every day I can devote to lampwork as much time as I would like to share. Sometimes, my daily work is more similar to the fight for survival, what we can see in "Discovery Chanel". For example, we were 4 days without electricity this winter, as a result of great storm.
Fortunately we had petrol electricity generator from our yacht. We got enough power for computer, TV and lighting. We are almost ready to the end of the World.
I have loved and collected glass, in some form or another, since childhood.
My focus turned to glass beads in 2008 when on internet i saw Kandice Seeber amazing beads. I had no idea that it will eventually change my life!
Also, at the same time came Trollbeads. At the same time, I have seen and creative freedom, and serial beads that were not free. I discovered quickly that famous brand beads are expensive, but the range is limited and every store has "the same" beads. I somehow found the term "Self-Representing Artist" and I was instantly won over by handmade artisan beads. In May of 2008, my husband helped to install my work place and I took an every day lampworking . I set up my studio. I wanted to learn, and had complete confidence in my creative and artistic abilities, but I studied the blind. I did not have nobody to consult or discuss. Everything has changed when I bought the book of Corina Tettinger, "Passing The Flame" on internet. This was my first extramural class and teacher. And that's all it took. I was hooked, an addict, a flame junkie, just like that. There is something mesmerizing about the glow and flow of molten glass. I love it!
My torch is a Midrange Plus Nortel due fuel. It use a mix of oxygen and propane. I anneal all of my work in a profesional digitaly controlled SNOL Kiln. My workshop is close to our living room. So, my baby Viktorija and Mark is very interested in the variety of tools and colorful glass rods. And sometimes it is difficult to explain her not to do their own procedures there.
Most of things I do are pre ordered items. And just a little time I have for a creative job. But sometimes these pre ordered things can be unexpected and full of challenges. And it gives for me new ideas and inspiration. Not so long time ago I got order to make a pendant "Ant" and three carp fishes. To make it is necessary to have skills and creativity.
I devote as much time as I can to developing my knowledge and skill in this wonderful medium. One day I hope to expand my skills and studio beyond my home. My journey has just begun!!!
I am a member of the Lithuanian Folk Artist's society, glass artist and lampwork teacher, my number of SRA # S227.
Thanks so much for stopping by.....I appreciate your interest.
